On 12th August, 1917, away from all the activity further north as 3rd Ypres or Passchendaele continued to draw in more troops,11th Middlesex of 36 Brigade, 12th Division moved into the front line at Monchy-le-Preux near Arras in France. The Battalion Diary entry for 14th August recorded that in general it was a quiet day but that three men were killed and another three wounded when a trench mortar which fell in Sap F. That night the enemy shelled the battalion’s positions at Hill Support, destroying the wire that had been erected the previous night. One of the casualties on this day was Edward Midson. |
